SBIR/STTR Award attributes
There is a need for small SWaP-C portable neutron generators for DoD and industrial applications such as neutron and gamma radiographic imaging and directed high-energy neutrons (>6MeV) to penetrate objects for active interrogation or to induce fissions within material. This SBIR targets a critical component in the overall cost and size of neutron generation. Phase 1 identified a novel multiplier configuration that is extensible to 4MV. Phase 1 also identified two fabrication pathways for promising dielectric materials with sufficient strength and longevity necessary for miniaturization and advanced applications. The Phase 2 plan will be to develop the materials and HV multiplier in the form factor suitable for a particle accelerator. The commercial product development plan is staged into 0.5MV, 2MV and 4MV versions for HV multiplier and system-level neutron generator and particle accelerator applications. Development and testing will be conducted at an existing, licensed testing and radiation facility.
