SK Infrared, in collaboration with subject matter experts from Ohio State University (OSU) is proposing to develop inexpensive LiDAR-like 3D imaging sensors with high depth and vertical resolution and a large field of view (FOV). The 3D Multimodal Imaging with LiDAR-like Engineered Sensor (3D-MILES) will be a novel product that can be used for reliable object detection at medium to long ranges in indoor and outdoor environments. The proposed effort is an extremely challenging venture and requires the systematic synergistic development of a hybrid platform that integrates state-of-the-art (SOTA) machine learning and computer vision algorithms with commercial off the shelf (COTS) sensors and computing hardware including active illumination technologies and high-speed electronics.
