Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) information is ubiquitous and often taken for granted. From Joint Direct Attack Munitions to Global Positioning System (GPS) assisted Tomahawk to GPS flight navigation, virtually all that we do on the battlespace needs and requires GPS. But this paradigm for ubiquitous PNT is under threat. The potential foes of the US recognize that jamming, spoofing and otherwise blocking US forces access to GPS may degrade or deny the US the ability to conduct sustained precision combat operations. The solution lies in the equipment that every battlefield entity already carries – their Software Defined Radio (SDR). When augmented with assured PNT from an IEEE 1588 data link and GPS signal processing, the solution extends PNT assurance beyond the current GPS paradigm.
