Orchid is a blockchain and software development company that is headquartered in San Francisco, California and was founded in 2017 by Brian Fox, Gustav Simonsson, Jay Freeman, Stephen Bell, and Steven Waterhouse. The company is developing an open source protocol, called the Orchid Protocol, which is a blockchain-based decentralized peer-to-peer network protocol that powers a marketplace for buying and selling internet bandwidth.
On October 26, 2017 Orchid Labs announced closing their seed SAFT (Simple Agreement for Future Tokens) funding round with $4.7 million in funding from Andreessen Horowitz, Blockchain Capital, Polychain Capital, Sequoia Capital, Struck Capital, MetaStable Capital, Firestartr, Fabric Ventures, Divergence Digital Currency, DFJ Growth, and CrunchFund.
On April 20, 2018 Orchid Labs completed a venture capital round with $36.1 million in funding from Visary Capital, Threshold, Sequoia Capital, Polychain, MetaStable Capital, Compound, BoxGroup, Blockchain Capital, and Andreessen Horowitz.
