Mid-wave Infrared polarization maintaining single-mode fibers capable of transmitting linearly polarized mid-IR light are in great demand for a variety of DoD’s applications. NP Photonics proposes to design and fabricate polarization maintaining single-mode mid-IR fiber using our mature rod-in-tube technique and substantial experience and capability in making polarization maintaining optical fibers and mid-IR fibers. In this Phase I program, we will fabricate two mid-IR polarization maintaining single mode fibers and test their properties. Mid-IR polarization maintaining single-mode fibers meeting or exceeding the requirements of the Navy’s applications will be fabricated in Phase II.
