History
The organization of gas facilities in the Moldavian SSR began as early as 1947, when the first 20 gas-cylinder plants were assembled, and a year later the Kishinev Mechanical Plant mastered the production of gas stoves, reducers and gas cylinders. In 1963 the first group reservoir unit for liquefied gas was put into operation and three years later the supply of natural gas to the republic through gas networks began. At the same time, the construction of high and low pressure gas pipelines began, as well as the gasification of settlements. In 1966 the Odessa-Chisinau main gas pipeline was also put into operation, and in 1967 the gas distribution station "Chisinau" (GDS-1) started operation.
In 1984, the construction of the Chisinau-Ribnita gas pipeline was completed. In 1991, after Moldova's independence and sovereignty were recognized, the government of the new republic approved the State Gasification Program until 2005 and created the State Gasification Department. Thus, the process of restructuring the gas industry of Moldova was initiated. In 1994, the State Concern "Moldova-Gas" SA under the Department of Energy, Energy Resources and Fuel was established de jure, which included 51 gas enterprises; four years later the law "On Natural Gas," which laid the foundation for legal regulation of the gas sector, was adopted.
In 1999 the "Moldovagaz" joint-stock company was formed in its present form following the merger of the State Concern "Moldova-Gaz" SA and the Moldovan-Russian JSC "Gazsnabtransit". It included 23 limited liability companies. In 2002 a new National gasification program of the Republic of Moldova was adopted, and a year later the gas metering station (GMS) "Causeni" was put into operation. In 2004, 35 branches of 23 existing gas enterprises were formed. Within the framework of the gasification program two main gas pipelines Tokuz-Cainar-Mereni (2007) and Balti-Ungheni (2009) were commissioned, the Chisinau gas distribution station was overhauled, the Teleneşti gas distribution station was built and an overhaul with reconstruction and modernization of the Razdelnaia-Izmail main gas pipeline was started (all - 2010)
