Missy Park (Lillian Hunter Park) is the CEO and founder of Title Nine, an outdoor and athletic gear company for women that she founded in 1989 in her garage in Berkeley, California.
Park was an avid athlete and college basketball player who grew up during the early era of Title IX, the 1972 law that created new opportunities for young women to play sports. At that time, women's athletic attire was either ill-fitting or non-existent. This led Park to launch her company in 1989 with a mail-order catalog of running shorts, tights, and sports bras, naming it after the 1972 law. The company has grown into a $100 million business without ever taking outside investment. Park remains the sole owner.
Park earned a bachelor's in history from Yale University in 1985, where she was a student-athlete playing basketball, lacrosse, and tennis.
Missy Park and Title Nine started the Pitchfest Outdoor Edition in 2018 to provide a platform for majority women-owned brands to gain valuable industry insights into the competitive outdoor, athletic, and lifestyle spaces. Women entrepreneurs participate in a pitchfest in the hopes of having their products sold on the Title Nine site and becoming a part of Title Nine’s entrepreneurial network of Movers & Makers.
In July 2021, Missy Park, through her company Title Nine, made the largest donation in the company's history to the US women's national soccer team (USWNT). Title Nine donated $1 million to the team in support of the team's fight for equal pay. Park and her company also committed to match all contributions up to an additional $250,000 made through the "Kick In for Equal Pay" initiative. She specifically asked for no sponsorship or endorsements in return, stating that her company does not sponsor athletes.
