Martin Brest (born August 8, 1951) is an American screenwriter, film producer, film director, writer, and actor. Brest was born in The Bronx, and holds citizenship in the United States. He is a graduate of several prestigious institutions: Tisch School of the Arts, New York University, Stuyvesant High School, AFI Conservatory, and the American Film Institute.
Brest's film career spans from 1972 to 2003, with his first release in 1972 and his latest in 2003. He has directed numerous films, including Meet Joe Black, Midnight Run, Scent of a Woman (1992), Going in Style, Beverly Hills Cop, Gigli, Hot Dogs for Gauguin, Hot Tomorrows, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Spies Like Us. Brest has also served as a member of the board of directors for Gigli and Scent of a Woman, and is the creator of both those films.
Throughout his career, Martin Brest has worked across different genres, such as comedy-drama, comedy, action film, drama, fantasy film, romantic film, and crime film.
