Lavrentiy Beria was a politician and revolutionary born on March 17, 1899, in Merkheuli . Beria, whose birth name was Lavrentiy Pavlovich Beria, was educated at the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industrial University .

During his lifetime, Beria received numerous awards including Hero of Socialist Labor, Order of Lenin, the Stalin Prize, Order of Suvorov, Order of the Red Banner, Medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945," and Medal "For the Defense of Moscow" .
