KuCoin Exchange, also known as "The People's Exchange," is a cryptocurrency exchange that is headquartered in Seychelles. The cryptocurrency exchange officially launched on September 15, 2017, and was founded in 2013 by Michael Gan, Eric Don, Top Lan, Kent Li, John Lee, Jack Zhu, and Linda Lin.
The exchange platform offers a KuCoin wallet that is protected by multilayer encryption and offline storage through bank safe and/or funds escrow. KuCoin also comes with profit-sharing among token holders.
In September 2017, KuCoin completed its initial coin offering (ICO) with approximately $27.5 million worth of Bitcoin (5500 Bitcoin at the time of ICO). The company planned to use the ICO money to hire developers and expand its support team from fifty to one hundred.
On November 15, 2018, KuCoin completed its series A funding round with $20 million in funding from NEO Global Capital (NGC), Matrix Partners, and IDG Capital. The series A funding will be used to develop and launch the KuCoin 2.0 platform. KuCoin made the following public statement after announcing its series A funding:
We will continue to spare no effort in exploring the best hidden gems in the crypto world while growing exponentially on a global scale and, more importantly, solidifying our position as ‘The People’s Exchange'.
Announced November 17, 2021, KuCoin raised a total of $100M in a single venture fund called KuCoin Metaverse Fund.
