Kenji Mizoguchi was a Japanese film director and screenwriter born on May 16, 1898, in Hongō, Tokyo . He held Japanese nationality and was a filmmaker . Mizoguchi directed numerous films throughout his career, such as Osaka Elegy , The Life of Oharu , Ugetsu , The Crucified Lovers , Street of Shame , and Sisters of the Gion .
