He was also bestowed the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour and the National Society of Film Critics Award .

Renoir was married to Catherine Hessling and had a child named Alain Renoir . Other relatives include his siblings Pierre Renoir and Claude Renoir, as well as his niece Sophie Renoir . He passed away on February 12, 1979, in Beverly Hills, California .
