Jean Renoir was a French film director, screenwriter, actor, producer, and author. Born on September 15, 1894, in Paris, France , he was the child of famous painter Pierre-Auguste Renoir . Throughout his career, Renoir directed more than forty films, spanning from the silent era to the end of the 1960s .
Some of Renoir's most notable works include La Fille de l'eau , La Grande Illusion , The Rules of the Game , and Partie de campagne . In addition to his directing accomplishments, Renoir also acted in, wrote, and produced numerous films .
Throughout his life, Renoir received several awards for his contributions to the film industry, such as the Venice Film Festival Award , the Légion d'honneur , and an Honorary Academy Award . He was also bestowed the Chevalier of the Legion of Honour and the National Society of Film Critics Award .
Renoir was married to Catherine Hessling and had a child named Alain Renoir . Other relatives include his siblings Pierre Renoir and Claude Renoir, as well as his niece Sophie Renoir . He passed away on February 12, 1979, in Beverly Hills, California .
