Irpin (Ukrainian: Ірпі́нь), or Irpen (Russian: Ирпе́нь) is a city located on the Irpin River in Kyiv Oblast (province) right next to Kyiv city in northern Ukraine. A portion of Irpin, the settlement of Kotsiubynske, is an exclave within Kyiv.
Administratively, it is incorporated as a city of oblast significance and serves as an administrative center of Irpin Municipality, which includes the city of Irpin and three urban-type settlements. Its population is approximately 62,456 (2021 est.)
History
The city of Irpin owes its appearance to the construction of the Kyiv-Kovel railway, which began in 1899. Around the road, near Kyiv, railway workers are founding the holiday villages of Irpin, Bucha and Vorzel. The villages of Irpin and Bucha got their names from the rivers of the same name, near which they were located.
In 1956, the village of Irpin was granted the status of a city of district subordination as part of the Kyiv-Sviatoshynskyi district.
By the Decree of the Presidium of the Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR of December 30, 1962, Irpen was granted the status of a city of regional subordination, it included urban-type settlements Bucha, Vorzel, Gostomel, and Kotsyubynske. Thus, in the mid-60's the formation of the modern territory of the Irpin region is completed. According to the All-Ukrainian Census, Priirpinnia has a population of 101,800.
The Chernobyl disaster

A monument to VP was erected in Irpen. Pravik, a Chernobyl firefighter who put out a fire at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
In 1988, businesses and residents of Irpen provided assistance to earthquake victims in Armenia. Enterprises transferred money and sent equipment. Irpin ATP 13250 transferred 20 thousand rubles to the fund to help the Armenian people, the plant "Progress" - 10 thousand rubles.
In 1987, the Peremoha plant was the first in Ukraine to produce bulletproof vests. Body armor proved to be good during the war in Afghanistan.

Symbolism of Irpen
Irpin has its own coat of arms and flag.
The coat of arms was approved by the decision of the city council on April 6, 1999.
Coat of arms: a shield on which two golden horizontal and one blue wavy squirrels intersect in the lower part, dividing the field of the shield into a larger upper blue part and a green edge. In the blue field there is a symbolic golden branch of a pine, which rests on the lower golden beam. The shield is framed by a wide gold border, which has the appearance of a Varangian shield, in the upper part of which there is a convex inscription "IRPIN".
The flag was approved by the decision of the city council on June 26, 2001.
