Innovative Biochips (iBioChips) is a Sugar Land, Texas-based biotechnology company which has integrated diagnostic assays and cellular engineering into miniaturized chips offering sensitivity and high-throughput. iBioChips was spun out of the Houston Texas Medical center in 2016.

Technology

iBioChips has said they are committed to develop microfluidic technologies to study phenotype-genotype correlations at a single-cell level, intratumor heterogeneity, new immune cell subsets, and aging-associated disease prevention. They were finalists in 2016 for the Fierce Innovation Award in Life Sciences for their Automated Yeast Aging Analysis System. The system allowed for high-throughput analysis of yeast cells aging with automated lifespan tracking.

Products
Smart Aliquotor

iBioChips' smart aliquotor is a single-cell identification system with what iBioChips says is a close to 100% cell retrieval ratio. The system works to isolate a single target cell from millions using a tandem operation, compatible with various cell sizes and types, and useful for genetic and clonal analysis.

Smart Aliquotor Compact Edition (SACE)

The Smart Aliquotor Compact Edition (SACE) is intended to work in the same way as iBioChips traditional Smart Aliquotor but is shrunk down from a 90 millimeter diameter down to a 60 millimeter diameter, from a 15 millimeter height down to a 12.6 millimeter height, and the number of wells included are down from 100 to 64.

Smart Aliquotor Extended Edition (SAEE)

The Smart Aliquotor Extended Edition (SAEE) is intended to work in the same way as iBioChips traditional Smart Aliquotor but is extended from 90 millimeters to 127.8 millimeter, from a 15 millimeter height to a 17.8 millimeter height, and the number of wells included are increased from 100 to 384.

Automated Dissection Chip

iBioChips' Automated Dissection Chip is intended to offer users continuous live cell imaging of budding yeasts through their lifespan, and automatically separates daughters from their mothers. The chip is capable of trapping over 10,000 single yeast cells and is compatible with high resolution fluorescent imaging.

Picowell Chamber

iBioChips' Picowell Chamber offers users single-cell isolation in pico-liter sized wells for high-throughput microinjection and imaging. The chamber is designed to offer two to four wells for multiple experimental conditions, and offers a two level well structure intended to enable gentle medium exchange with limited disruption of the cell.

Custom Device Design

iBioChips offers custom device design for microfluidic devices for specific applications. They offering manufacturing in biocompatible polymer, glass, and plastic and provide consulting services through the development and manufacturing of the custom device. Their suggested applications include:

  • Live cell imaging chamber
  • Cell manipulation for trapping and pairing
  • Microwells and microchambers available for long term culturing
  • Cell isolation and separation micromixer for microreactions and protein extraction
  • Single-cell genomics and proteomics
  • Cargo delivery and gene manipulation
  • High-throughput drug screening
National Institutes of Health (NIH) Small Business Technology Transfer Phase II Grant

Innovative Biochips was awarded a National Institutes of Health (NIH) Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase II grant. This Phase II grant is intended to support the continued research and development of Innovative Biochips automated dissection system initiated in a Phase I grant they were previously awarded. The Phase II funding is based on the results achieved in Phase I.
