The Navy requires a decision aide to automate and modernize STANDARD Missile (SM) maintenance planning with the goal of reducing manpower and life cycle costs while ensuring continued readiness. Presently, the SM program relies heavily on program office personnel to analyze maintenance data and prioritize sustainment activities, a time- and labor-intensive maintenance planning approach. Illumination Works offers the Navy our SMART (SM Automated Reliability and Trending) solution to automate the processing of SM maintenance and inspection results; analyze this data for part failures, determine root cause, and prescribe corrective actions; as well as identify proactive maintenance activities and spare procurement needs. SMART’s modular, extensible architecture can accommodate a vast array of data sources, both in structured and unstructured forms. SMART decision support tool will include transformational pipelines to prepare data for analysis and will apply several machine learning algorithms to the data to enable proactive, prescriptive recommendations for fleet maintenance and sustainment planning. Finally, a user interface (UI) will present this information in an intuitive way enabling the SM program to view patterns across the fleet. Phase I activities will provide full validation of the SMART ML (Machine Learning) approaches and UI design, which will allow for rapid development during Phase II.
