Grigori Perelman

Grigori Perelman is a mathematician born on June 13, 1966, in Saint Petersburg, Russia. He is a citizen of both Soviet Union()and Russia. Perelman's father is Yakov Perelman.

Grigori Perelman received his education at Saint Petersburg Lyceum 239, Saint Petersburg State University, and St. Petersburg Department of Steklov Institute of Mathematics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. His doctoral advisor was Yuri Burago.

Perelman is best known for his work on the Poincaré conjecture, Geometrization conjecture, and Soul theorem. For his work on the Poincaré conjecture, Perelman was awarded the Fields Medal in 2006.
