Gorillas is a grocery delivery service founded in Straßen, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany, in May of 2020 by Kağan Sümer and Jörg Kattner. The company began operating primarily in Berlin and Cologne, Germany, while advertising ten-minute delivery capabilities by utilizing "hyper-local" fulfillment centers. Gorillas announced its second funding round (Series A) in December of 2020, closing at $44M.
Gorillas is built on the concept of micro fulfillment, according to the company CEO Kağan Sümer, who co-founded the company to "address grocery markets outside of weekly bulk shopping." Gorillas collects data on what consumers in certain areas need and provide those single sale items in a 10-minute delivery format at retail prices and a delivery fee of 1.80 Euros.
Sümer states that the funds raised in the December 2020 Series A funding round will be used to expand Gorillas to more areas in Germany and rollout in other areas of Europe, with an initial push in Amsterdam. Gorillas additionally stated it plans to expand to 15 cities and 60 fulfillment centers by the end of Q2 2021.
