George Akerlof is an economist and professor born on June 17, 1940, in New Haven, Connecticut. He holds United States citizenship and teaches in the United States.
Akerlof received his education from several institutions, including Yale University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Lawrenceville School. His doctoral advisor was Robert Solow, and his academic discipline is Economics. Akerlof is the founder of the Institute for New Economic Thinking.
