ERNEST BORGNINE

ERNEST EFFRON BORGNINO.

American actor, winner of an Academy Award for Best Actor (1955).

He was born January 24, 1917 (according to other sources 1918) in the town of Hamden, Connecticut.

His real first and last name was Ernest Effron Borgnino.

His parents were Italian. The family was not wealthy, so Ernest, as the eldest of the sons, went to work very early. He was both an apprentice in a factory, a ranch hand where he learned to tame horses, a baker, and a high-rise builder.

He served 10 years in the U.S. Navy.

After leaving the service, he went to attend the Randall School of Drama in Hartford, Connecticut. After graduating, he began working at the renowned Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia. In 1949 he made his Broadway debut in the musical Harvey.

In 1951, Borgnine moved to Los Angeles. In Hollywood, he tried on the profession of a stuntman, the benefit was able to control the horses. His film debut - the film "Blow the whistle at Eaton Falls" (1951). For several years, Ernest worked exclusively in Westerns and historical films: fell at full tilt, with breakneck speed racing chariots, jumping over chasms and learning to fight with a spear, sword, sword and shoot a revolver.

His first notable acting job was a role in From Here to Eternity in 1953, where he was paired with Frank Sinatra. After some time in Hollywood talked about the unconventional and very talented character actor, able to play almost any role: Caesar, a salesman, an outlaw, a gangster, a cowboy.

In 1955, for the film "Marty" (Marty Piletti) Borgnine was awarded an Oscar, which raised its rating and heated interest from directors.

Virtually all of the pictures in which he starred, without exception, were adventure films. But time passed, and television is firmly in possession of the actor, who even in advanced age, did not stop filming. The most famous works were the TV series "Air Wolf" (Dominic Santini), the film "Jesus of Nazareth" and the TV series "Fleet Mac Hale" (1962-1965).

He received three honorary doctorates, and was awarded the 33rd Masonic Degree, and their Distinguished Service Award. He also holds the title of Honorary Airman of the Blue Angels, an elite aviation unit in the United States. In addition, he is the recipient of the Lone Sailor Award for his support of the U.S. Navy Memorial Fund.

For his contributions to the film industry, Ernest Borgnine received a named star on the Hollywood Boulevard Walk of Fame.

He passed away on July 8, 2012, in Los Angeles.
