The proposed program seeks to develop, build, and begin testing a lightweight, cost-effective, gaseous hydrogen (GH2) storage system. The effort will examine opportunities for integration of into structural integration of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) with focus in group I-III type UAS. The GH2 storage system will include a Smart Cylinder Management System (SCMS) capable of controlling fill rates as well as monitoring cylinder pressure, temperature, strain, and fill cycle count. A Composite Overwrapped Pressure Vessel (COPV) of Type V will provide similar characteristics as Type IV class in permeation with significantly less mass and a safe failure mode. The system will provide an integrated approach to provide a safe and scalable GH2 storage for the Navy and USMC.
