Dashiell Hammett, born as Samuel Dashiell Hammett , was born on May 27, 1894, in Baltimore, and held United States citizenship. He was educated at Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. As a professional writer, Hammett's occupations included novelist, screenwriter, journalist, and writer. Hammett's writing was predominantly in the genre of detective fiction.

Dashiell Hammett was the author of several notable works, including "Red Harvest", "The Glass Key", "The Dain Curse", "The Thin Man", "The Maltese Falcon", "The Gutting of Couffignal", and "After the Thin Man".
