Christopher Best is a San Francisco-based engineer and entrepreneur. He is best known for cofounding the online publishing platform Substack, for which he also serves as CEO, and previously cofounding the messaging application Kik Interactive, for which he served as CTO.
Best cofounded Kik Interactive in 2010 with CEO Ted Livingston. Kik provided a messaging application that let users register for the service without a phone number or other credentials. In 2017, Best left Kik to found Substack, an online publishing platform that allows writers to charge subscriptions for access to their content. In 2021, Substack was valued at $650 million after it closed a $65 million funding round.
Best obtained his bachelor's degree in systems design engineering from the University of Waterloo in 2010.
