Capsule Social makes innovative tools to enable decentralized discourse. This is our passion because we know people urgently need tools that better protect their autonomy, privacy, and right to free speech as they share information on the internet.
Our initial product is a publishing platform designed to empower writers as never before. It's now in private alpha, with a public beta release scheduled for 2022.
The platform features a simple, beautiful interface designed to empower a wide variety of creators, including journalists, authors, activists, artists, scientists, hobbyists, and anyone else who wants to share their ideas with engaged readers.
To help users accomplish this, our platform leverages powerful decentralized technologies like IPFS, OrbitDB, and the NEAR Protocol to enable resilient, censorship-resistant writing and payments to creators in either cryptocurrency or fiat money. We also have a governance token in the works, so the community will have a say in moderation and other matters.
Capsule was founded in early 2021 by Nadim Kobeissi, a Paris-based cryptography researcher. Within a day of tweeting his initial idea for a social network, Nadim got seed funding from several angel investors, including former Coinbase Chief Technology Oifficer Balaji Srinivasan, and others. The company has since raised an additional round led by Polychain Capital's Beacon Fund.
Capsule's growing team is highly distributed, with members located across Europe, Africa, India, Canada, and the U.S. We see this as a great strength because, if you're building a social app to make the world a better place, it helps to have people from diverse parts of it participate in the process.
