Barry Beck is an entrepreneur, co-founder and former COO of Bluemercury, a luxury beauty and retail spa chain headquartered in Washington, DC. Beck and his wife Marla Beck co-founded Bluemercury in 1999 as an e-commerce company. It now has more than 200 stores in the United States.
Beck received a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University in 1990.
Beck founded the company as a website with a $1 million investment from AOL executives Steve Case and Ted Leonsis as well as The Carlyle Group. Beck opened the first physical store on M Street in Georgetown, Washington, DC, in 1999. In 2015, Macy's purchased Bluemercury for $210 million. Barry Beck resigned his position on 20 September 2019. Marla Beck continued her work with Bluemercury.
In 2019, Beck received the Jerome Alpern award from Cornell University's School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR). Beck is a member of the Cornell Trustee Council, the ILR Dean's Advisory Council, and the advisory council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. He is also on the board of the Fashion Institute of Technology.
Beck lives in Bethesda, MD with his wife and business partner Marla and three children.
