Amazon QuickSight is a machine learning-powered business intelligence (BI) service built to help organizations make data-driven decisions. As a BI utility, QuickSight offers users data visualizations and interactive data dashboards, which can be embedded into applications, portals, and websites to offer users insights to help inform business decision-making.
Quicksight offers a natural language query capability to allow users to ask questions in plain English. The BI platform also offers generated insights in simple language so even those who lack data science experience can understand them. Further, the platform allows users to make predictions about outcomes through anomaly detection or forecasting. For example, the National Football League (NFL) has noted that it uses Amazon QuickSight to power players' Next Gen Stats, which charts players' individual movements and provides insights into those players.
Amazon added a QuickSight Community where users can ask and answer questions from other users of the program, network, access learning content, and stay up to date with new features and capabilities.
QuickSight Q is a machine learning capability introduced to Amazon's QuickSight program to allow users to type questions about their datasets in natural language and receive accurate answers with relevant visualizations in seconds. The feature allows users to ask questions and receives answers with paginated reporting features to make it easier for users to share business-critical operational reports through the QuickSight interface, with a new in-memory engine that supports 1 billion rows of data to make visualizing and analyzing large datasets faster and allows customers to create, manage, and edit QuickSight dashboards and reports to accelerate migrations from legacy systems.
In 2023, Amazon's QuickSight was upgraded with generative AI, which allows the BI platform to generate visuals, fine-tune and format visuals when given natural language instructions, and create calculations from commands without specific syntax. Further, the dashboard will offer users a drop-down "Ask Q" option, which will prompt a user to describe the data they'd like to visualize in natural language. And the visualization offered by the dashboard can then be refined by using filters and changing metrics.
Further, the generative AI features for QuickSight will allow users to edit elements of dashboards and reports through natural language commands, will be able to generate calculations through a description of the desired calculation, and will generate "visual narratives" through a "Create Story" button, which takes visuals and relevant dashboards alongside text-based outlines, descriptions, and analyses of the data to relate it to a given general business problem.
