About.me is a San Francisco-based company with a platform for entrepreneurs and freelancers to use for creating an online presence. The company was founded in 2010, and ownership of it has changed several times; a few days after the platform launched in 2010, AOL bought it, but the cofounders of About.me bought it back approximately two years later. Then, in 2019, About.me was acquired by Broadly, but the functionality of the platform remained the same.
Users can sign up to use the platform through Facebook or Google and then create their own customized page. The platform is intended to be used by entrepreneurs and business owners to create an overview of their experiences and offerings for their potential clients and audiences. Users can select to have a personalized URL for the page and include links to other sites that are pertinent to their area of expertise, such as LinkedIn, Twitter, and their own personal websites. Users can also include their name, biography, and a photograph on their page.
There are other features that users can access, such as an email signature that will leave a link to their About.me page at the end of the email. Other features can only be accessed if the user has a Pro account, which is approximately $7 per month. Some of those features include portfolios, videos, and testimonials, and access to metrics about page stats and visitor traffic.
