at the age of 16, Yulia Efimova took part in her first European Championship. At that time, she was little known, but thanks to her perseverance, she won gold in the 200 meters, as well as silver in the 50 meters.
In the same year, Julia got to the Beijing Olympics, but did not achieve much success, finishing in fifth place. The following year, having Olympic experience behind her, she took 2nd place in the 100 meters. Efimova continued her medal streak by winning the subsequent 2010 European Championship.
After a 16-month suspension, Efimova competed at the 2015 Russian Championship. Almost instantly, her performances in the 50m and 100m breaststroke propelled her to the top of the world rankings in competition. At the 2015 Santa Clara Grand Prix where she won everything over all distances representing Club Trojan.
Before the 2016 Olympics, Efimova's doping attracted the attention of the world media. Efimova was disqualified twice for positive drug tests, and both times she declared her innocence to doping.
