Voronezh

VORONEZH, a city, the administrative center of the Voronezh region of the Russian Federation, a large industrial and cultural center, a railway junction. Situated on both banks of the river. The Voronezh fortress was built under the leadership of the first Voronezh governor Semyon Fedorovich Saburov. In April 1590, the fortress was set on fire by the Cherkasy. The city was almost completely destroyed. By 1594, Voronezh was "cut" (restored) anew.
