The collection, exchange, and management of meaningful patient data across the continuum of care enables improved health management. Implementing these systems has proved a challenge due to difficulties with system interoperability, automatic data collection, and emerging health informatics standards. In the military setting these challenges are amplified by the extreme operating conditions, data transmission limitations, and minimal training for some care providers. Advances in wearable electronics, data storage and transmission, and electronic medical records enable a system to automatically collect and manage patient data but are not integrated into a single package that is suitable for the operational environment. To address this gap, Vivonics proposes AWAREActive Wearable for Assessment and Remote Evaluation. The key innovation of AWARE is the integration of automatic physiological data collection, transmission, and management into an operationally-suitable form factor to improve local and remote monitoring and assessment. AWARE will improve patient outcomes across the continuum of care while reducing the burden on minimally-trained warfighters to monitor casualties and make triage and treatment decisions. This system meets an unmet need for remote monitoring and assessment beginning at the point of injury and could serve as a platform for improving outcomes through predictive analytics and health informatics.
