Vittorio De Sica (1901-1974) was an Italian film director and actor, a leading figure in the neorealist movement. He was born in Sora, Lazio and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine. De Sica had a diverse occupational background, including work as an executive producer, screenwriter, film producer, and actor. He is particularly known for his work in the genre of Italian neorealism.
De Sica's notable films include Two Women, Marriage Italian Style, Bicycle Thieves, Umberto D., Miracle in Milan, The Children Are Watching Us, Maddalena, Zero for Conduct, and Shoeshine. In addition to these films, he directed other works such as The Boom, Umberto D., A Breath of Scandal, and Bicycle Thieves.
Throughout his career, De Sica received numerous awards, including recognition from the Cannes Film Festival, Nastro d'Argento for Best Director, BAFTA Award, Berlin International Film Festival, and Moscow International Film Festival.
His personal life included marriage to María Mercader and being the father of three children: Christian De Sica, Manuel De Sica, and Vicky Lagos.
