A display device including a pattern generator configured to generate a diffraction pattern from an image; a light source configured to emit emission light; an optical condenser which condenses the emission light to generate illumination light; and a spatial light modulator which diffracts the illumination light according to the diffraction pattern to generate diffracted light.
