Patent 9475000 was granted and assigned to Qatar University on October, 2016 by the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
Carbon dioxide (CO2) mineralization using reject brine is a process that includes obtaining reject brine discharged from a desalination plant, contacting the reject brine with ammonia to form ammoniated brine, contacting CO2 emitted from a chemical or power plant with the ammoniated brine to form sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) and aqueous ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) solution, and contacting the aqueous ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) solution with calcium oxide (CaO) to form calcium chloride and releasing virtually all ammonia from the ammonium chloride (NH4Cl) solution.
