Taylor Kitsch was born in Kelowna, British Columbia. He has two older brothers and two younger half-sisters. Since childhood, he wanted to become a professional hockey player, playing as a striker for the Bonnieville Pontiacs (Alberta Junior Hockey League), Fernie Goustriders (Kotenay Junior Hockey League) and Langley Hornets (British Columbia Hockey League). After a knee injury, he ended his career as a hockey player. Kitsch took courses in nutrition and economics at the University of Lethbridge for a year and lived with his brother.[3] In 2002 he moved to New York. Two years later, he signed with a production company, Untitled Entertainment, where he modeled.
