Tanner Research is proposing to adapt our long-term efforts in the development of the Electronic Safe and Arm Devices (ESAD), for use with COTS Analog-to-Digital devices to address the Remote A-D Translator needs as applied to Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) systems to enable legacy analog systems to interface with modern and modular avionics, without incurring significant size or weight and power impacts to the existing systems. The focus is to develop and assess feasibility of a compact Digital-to-Analog (D/A) and Analog-to-Digital (A/D) translator capable of receiving digital commands and translate them to proper analog voltages/currents for precise motor control. Analog feedback signal produced by a displacement sensor would also be translated to digital words for transmission back to the command system on an optical bus. The electronic device is designed to withstand shock, vibration, incorporates Hazard from Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance (HERO) Safe features, and will demonstrate a path to Rad-Tolerant design.
