Svetlana was born on August 22, 1971, in Kiev in the family of an engineer and a paramedic. At the age of 11, she moved with her parents to Sofia, where she studied at the school of the Soviet Embassy in Bulgaria. In 1986 she studied at the Technical College of Light Industry. In 1990, she entered the Kiev Textile Institute, and worked at the Kiev Fashion House. In 1994, she moved from Kiev to Moscow.
After receiving a professional education, she specialized in fashion design and modeling. Svetlana Tegin started her creative activity in Moscow by creating scenography and costume design for club shows, performances and fashion shows. In the late 90's leading fashion magazines Vogue and Cosmopolitan began to write about her collections and style, and since 2001 Tegin Fashion House regularly takes part in fashion weeks in Moscow, Kiev, Paris, Milan and New York.
