Subsocial is an open platform for developing decentralized social networks and marketplaces. The blockchain protocol enables users to create their own social network with built-in monetization features and content ownership. The Subsocial team received a parachain slot in December after finishing their crowdloan.
Subsocial's creation began in Q4 2019, and its advertised features include censorship resistance and built-in monetization pathways. Subsocial received support from the Web3 Foundation and the Polkadot/Kusama community. The team desires to integrate with Acala Network, Crust Network, and OpenSquare. The platform's features also include personalized feeds and notifications, IPFS integration, server rendering, and full-text search.
Alex Siman, the founder and architect of Subsocial, is a Polkadot ambassador. He established DappForce, Substrate Ukraine, and LearnWell Club. Subsocial is Polkadot's socio-financial protocol. It’s an open platform developed with the Substrate framework and the IPFS decentralized file system. One of the main features of Subsocial is the Serverless Public Timeline. Developers can operate web applications on IPFS without using centralized server hosts. Customizable moderation lets users set rules for their space. The platform also provides built-in community management roles with distinct permissions. In an interview with CoinMarketCap, Alex Siman stated
The Subsocial platform consists of two primary parts. One, an independent blockchain built on Substrate (which hosts its custom social networking modules), and two, a decentralized application (DApp) which functions as a social network and for which a cross-platform mobile app (Android/iOS) will be developed later this year. Subsocial will help creators to effortlessly build their own decentralized versions of social networks, market places and platforms such as Reddit, Instagram, Twitter and Medium, allowing its social media users to do anything that they’re used to doing on traditional social platforms.
