Moroccan track and field athlete, specializes in steeplechase. Olympic champion in 2020, vice-world champion in 2017 in the 3000 meters steeplechase, medalist of the 2019 World Championships. Participant of the 2016 Summer Olympics.

At the age of eighteen, he finished fourth at the 2014 World Junior Championships in Athletics, and then made his debut at the 2014 African Championships in Athletics, finishing tenth in the 3000 metres steeplechase. He also competed in cross-country running and was 18th among juniors at the 2015 World Cross Country Championships.
At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he improved his personal best of 8.14.35 minutes and took the final fourth place.
He won a silver medal at the 2017 World Championships in London.

On October 4, 2019, Soufian El-Bakkali in Doha became the bronze medalist of the World Championship in the 3000 meters steeplechase, showing a result of 8.03,76
