Kirill Skachkov started playing table tennis at the age of 7, at the youth sports club "Zapsibovets", located in the house where he lived. The first coach was Ekaterina Vasilyevna Popova, then Kirill was coached by Boris Nikolaevich Yurchenko. At the age of 15, he moved to Samara, where he began studying under the guidance of Viktor Polikarpovich Pavlenko. At the age of 15, he fulfilled the Master of Sports standard.
In 2005, he became the silver medalist of the Junior World Championship in Linz (Austria) in doubles.
