COVID-19
With the outbreak of COVID-19 (coronavirus), Sentara has began providing drive through testing for the virus. They look to test thousands of people and recommend that people only receive screening if they have two out of three symptoms including a fever, a cough, and/or shortness of breath. They also accept patients who have been in contact with someone confirmed or suspected to have COVID-19 and those that have traveled internationally.
They offer screening and testing at three different locations, and are postponing non-urgent surgeries and procedures in order to limit the number of patients in hospitals and facilities. Sentara healthcare has been working with community partners and residents to collect material supplies. They are working with London Bridge Trading to manufacture and collect surgical masks using Cupron, Inc. material. The masks have to be sewn in a particular way to meet antimicrobial property demands.
