Cache memory has been used effectively for years to improve the computation performance of microprocessors. Cache was implemented as a bridge between the register file and main memory and was designed to be fast enough to complement the processor speed, but much smaller in size than the main memory. A strategic hardened cache memory is a critical Intellectual Property (IP) block required for most Application Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) designs. Scientic and Trusted Semiconductor Solutions are proposing the development of a strategic radiation hardened cache memory on Global Foundries’ (GF) 45nm Partially-Depleted-Silicon-on-Insulator (PD-SOI) technology (known as 12SOI) to withstand and operate through the most extreme radiation environments.
