JioMart is an e-commerce platform by Reliance Industries. Operated by Reliance Retail, JioMart is being offered initially, in January 2020, to users in cities in Maharashtra, including Navi Mumbai, Thane and Kalyan. Reliance Retail sent invites out to Jio users to register for JioMart for early discounts. JioMart is set to compete against Amazon and Flipkart in the region, both of which offer same-day grocery and household essentials delivery.
JioMart is promising to offer over 50,000 grocery products with free home delivery, without minimum order values and what they are calling is an express delivery promise and a no questions asked return policy. JioMart will be available though Andoid and iOS apps.
In March, 2019, Reliance acquired logistics services platform Grab A Grub for its e-commerce venture. They also were in discussions with software company C-Square, which serves solutions to distributors, retailers, online e-commerce and sales force automation. Both helped develop the platform for JioMart.
Reliance Retail is not building a native warehouse, rather they are building JioMart on an online-to-offline marketplace under which it will source grocery items from nearby merchants, allowing offline retailers to cater to online-focussed customers. In order to make the system work, Reliance Retail will equip the local grocers with points of sale terminals, low interest working capital, inventory management skills and GST compliance.
