Radium (chemical symbol - Ra, from Lat. Radium) is a chemical element of the 2nd group (according to the outdated classification - the main subgroup of the second group, IIA), the seventh period of the periodic system of chemical elements of D. I. Mendeleev, with atomic number 88.

A simple substance radium is a shiny alkaline earth metal of silvery-white color, quickly tarnishing in air. It has a high chemical activity.

Radioactive. The most stable nuclide is 226Ra (half-life of about 1600 years).
