Popgun

Popgun is a company that has developed artificial intelligence with the ability to produce pop songs. The company was founded by Adam Hibble in 2017, in Brisbane, Australia.

Pogun started as a project known as Alice, an artificial intelligence that is capable of playing piano along with other musicians. The technology, was able to listen to notes that a human played and respond with what it thought would follow appropriately. Eventually the technology improved and was able to compose and improvise piano pieces without any human interaction. In 2018, Popgun started developing technology to play drums, bass, and to support human vocals. The AI learned from popular tracks on Spotify to being composing songs of its own, including the mixing and mastering of these tunes.

The company plans on releasing products with this technology to the public, and aims to democratize music so that anyone can create a hit song. The technology is seen as a creative foil for musician by Popgun, and is competing against Google's Magenta team to make something smart enough to create valued music.

Popgun is a company that participated in the Class 96 - Music 2017 Q1 cohort of Techstars.
