The Palantir system is an infrared- and polarization-based cruise missile detector and tracker. The threat of cruise missiles has only increased over the years, and current radar systems aren’t capable of adequately detecting these current threats. To fill this gap, Polaris has designed an optically based system to monitor high risk areas for incoming cruise missiles. The Palantir sensors are composed of two primary sensing technologies: infrared and polarization. Using these two technologies, Polaris has created a system with high discrimination and identification ability. The Palantir also utilizes Polaris’ specially designed tracking software, which was developed to track highly maneuverable targets in low signal-to-clutter backgrounds. Combining the above technologies into an interconnected, unit-based whole has created a modular system design that can be used in a variety of environments to detect and track cruise missiles.
