These investors bring extensive experience in the tech industry, with connections to companies like Vercel, Supabase, Shopify, and WorkOS.
Founded by Birk Jernström in 2022, Polar is focused on simplifying the billing process for developers, particularly for AI-driven SaaS products. Jernström, who previously served as the Director of Product at Shopify following the acquisition of his company Tictail, has built Polar with the goal of removing the complex and time-consuming elements of sales tax, billing integration, and monetization for developers. The company’s platform is designed to handle the billing operations for SaaS businesses, allowing developers to focus on product development.
The funding raised will be used to expand Polar’s team, further develop its billing primitives, and extend its operations globally. The company aims to grow its community of developers and strengthen its operational relationships worldwide. Polar plans to enhance its platform with new features to continue supporting the growing demand for AI-native SaaS solutions, which often require specialized billing capabilities.
Polar's key offering is its Merchant of Record solution, which can be implemented in just six lines of code. This streamlined implementation process makes it easy for developers to manage billing, sales tax, and customer events without having to build complex integrations. The platform automatically handles sales tax liabilities and token consumption from services such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and cloud storage solutions like S3. This ease of use has led to rapid adoption, with over 18,000 customers across more than 100 countries since the platform’s launch in September 2024.
The platform’s approach to SaaS billing is particularly valuable for AI-native companies that need to scale internationally and manage usage-based billing efficiently. Polar’s technology eliminates the need for extensive code to manage metering, entitlements, and billing patterns, thus reducing the amount of time developers spend on non-core tasks. By focusing on simplifying these aspects, Polar aims to help businesses grow faster and more efficiently.

Polar’s focus on making monetization and billing as seamless as possible has positioned it as a key player in the evolving landscape of AI-driven SaaS businesses.
