German biochemist
Otto Fritz Meyerhof was a German biochemist, psychiatrist, and physiologist who was born on April 12, 1884, in Hildesheim, Germany and died on October 6, 1951, in Philadelphia. His academic career involved education at the University of Strasbourg and Heidelberg University. Meyerhof is primarily known for his work on the relationship between the consumption of oxygen and the metabolism of lactic acid in the muscle.
During his career, Meyerhof was a German citizen and served as a doctoral advisor to Otto Heinrich Warburg. He later helped train Severo Ochoa as a doctoral student. Meyerhof's investigations in the field of Cell Biochemistry & Function significantly contributed to the academic discipline.
