Using the newly realized novel composite of magnesium nano-particles encapsulated with atomically thin reduced graphene oxide, Optowares in collaboration with Lawrence National Laboratory proposes to demonstrate and eventually produce a solid-state hydrogen storage system. The system will operate under moderate conditions (100 oC and pressure of 15 bar) for ground vehicle power applications, having the desired attributes of high reliability, high stability, large capacity, compact size, long operation life, and light weight that have not been attainable before. A prototype unit was built in Phase I to demonstrate the operation of the material and support system and its advantages in comparison with other hydrogen storage methods. As an engineering company with an excellent commercialization track record, Optowares will also demonstrate the new approach's economical viability and compatibility for use in various ground vehicle applications.
