Optimax Systems, Inc. and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) propose a collaborative effort, led by Optimax, with two focus areas. Optimax will focus on thin film coating development for optical components to: increase laser damage threshold of optics used in high energy laser systems, investigate methods for laser hardening of sensors, and model and predict the distortion of lightweight optics due to intrinsic thin film coating stress. LLNL will focus on additive manufacturing of low expansion materials for use in directed energy systems and lightweight backing structure design and fabrication for 3D-printed reflective optical substrates.
