OpenAirlines, a Toulouse-based provider of eco-friendly flight software, has raised €45 million to expand its flagship product, SkyBreathe, which uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to reduce airlines’ fuel consumption and carbon emissions. Led by the Eiffel Investment Group through its Eiffel Essentiel fund, the funding round also received backing from Mirova, a Natixis Investment Managers affiliate focused on sustainable investments, and CRPN, France’s civil aviation pension fund, which plans to join by the end of the year.
SkyBreathe, a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution, analyzes over 15 million flights and provides actionable insights for pilots and ground crews, targeting reductions in fuel consumption by 3% to 5% per flight. Currently used by more than 70 airlines worldwide, including Air France, EasyJet, JetBlue, and Indigo, SkyBreathe enables airlines to achieve returns on investment of up to 15x while aligning with sustainability goals. The software analyzes data from various stages of the flight cycle, helping optimize flight operations and reduce the environmental footprint of aviation.
OpenAirlines CEO Alexandre Feray emphasized the significance of the funding in enabling the company to expand its range of services and accelerate the adoption of sustainable aviation practices. Feray noted, “We will be able to make bolt-on acquisitions aimed at beefing up our range of products and services and thus cater to airlines as a real digital game-changer when it comes to reducing carbon footprints.” The funding will also support OpenAirlines' mission to unify various business lines, allowing the company to play a more prominent role in creating a sustainable aviation ecosystem.
Céline André, Director of the Eiffel Essentiel fund, highlighted OpenAirlines’ unique position in the market, stating, “OpenAirlines is currently the only player on the market offering airlines the actual tools they need to take urgent action.” The firm’s leadership in eco-flying solutions aligns with the goals of the investors, who prioritize environmentally sustainable ventures.
With this investment, OpenAirlines is poised to grow its influence in eco-friendly flight technology, supporting the global aviation industry's transition toward a more sustainable future.
