Abstract

The Strategic Capabilities Office (SCO) of OSD is leading a program to demonstrate a Hyper-Velocity Projectile (HVP) Gun Weapon System (HGWS) within the DoD. Emerging missile threats are highly agile, exhibit unpredictable behavior and are often protected by sophisticated counter-measures. To support the deployment of HVP weapon systems for defense against these threats, a comprehensive multi-target, multi-sensor tracking framework is needed to develop fire control tracks from available sensor data. The system must achieve robust data association, state estimation, and cross-sensor bias removal in real -time with very low latency. Numerica has successfully deployed a multi-sensor, multi-target tracking system, the MFA Composite Tracker, into the Army's Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS) program. The tracker has been used successfully for fire control applications in multiple field tests of the system and will provide the starting point for our solution. Our tracker directly addresses the stated needs. Our proposed program will develop new enhancements for integration into the tracking framework to improve bias mitigation, ambiguity resolution, and latency. We will work with Northrop Grumman (the IBCS prime) and the Army IAMD Project Office to develop a transition plan for transitioning the technology upgrades for IBCS.
